In episode 41b of The Descent Is Easy we conclude our Season 3a Roundup discussion with our last, and biggest theme of the half season Love and Sacrifice. We also pick our favourite moment for all of our core characters, discuss your write ins in regards to best bits, best episode and MVP of the half season, before casting our own hats.
Episode 41a of The Descent Is Easy is the first half of our Season 3a Roundup, in which we discuss the themes of this half season and spend a lot of time pondering theology and demonology, and wondering if our characters ever stop to think about any of this, and how high the chances are we’re gonna get Magnus and Alec sitting down and exploring this. We reckon low, by the way.
Episode 40 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Erchomai, Episode 10 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
In which we culminate our long long loooong day of Shadowhunting, which consisted of watching 03×09, podcasting it, then watching the season 3a finale and podcasting that… We refrained from hitting the whiskey but god, we could have done with one of Alec’s drinks because “it’s been quite the day.”
We discuss Edom and meeting Magnus’ infamous father and we wonder how he keeps himself busy, other than by not tidying up his pile of books. We marvel at the beauty of Simon Lewis’ character arc and the combined acting talent of the wonderful actors portraying the Lewis’ family. And we argue the difference between cliff hangers and game changers, and no cookies are handed out for guessing which one is acceptable, and which one is not. Boo.
Don’t forget to get your comments, best scenes, best episodes and MVPs as well as your quote guesses to us by the 25th May, for the Season 3a Round Up out on the 29th May.
Episode 39 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Familia Ante Omnia, Episode 9 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
In which we discuss the stunning cinematography of the cold open and the show’s bravery in revelling in this episode’s gruesomeness – maggotballs and all – and then complain about the number of characters that had to take their moron pills, to get the plot to where it needed to be and Deux Ex Machina-Clary Fairchild… Mostly because this basically means that Magnus Bane and the Shadowhunters have become entirely obsolete. Which totally opens up the beautiful possibilities of Magnus & Alec spending all of Season 3b on a beach, drinking Mojitos so… Barbados here we come!
You can find the 03×08 discussions mentioned in episode here, here and in the comments here
(Due to a houseguest, we had to abandon our normal recording space, so we’d like to apologise for the audio jump between the first 27 minutes and the rest of the episode.)
Episode 38 of The Descent Is Easy discusses A Heart of Darkness, Episode 8 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
This week we have issues with Luke and Ollie, however we are in LOVE with the Lightwood Siblings, and Clary being a chaos tiger. We admire Simon’s arc and Maia’s strength. Oh, how we wish that every YA story had a Maia Roberts! We also discuss shirtless Jace and Alec. For science. And how close Maryse might have come to being one of the pregnant women Valentine experimented on… just for some light comic relief.
Episode 37 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Salt In The Wound, Episode 7 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
This week we discuss Magnus and Luke’s amazing disappearing act; how the long awaited Simon Alec interaction isn’t quite what was wanted, but was maybe what was needed; the many ways in which Alisha Wainwright is awesome; a hug 40 episodes in the making; how Magnus and Alec continue to be a basket of onions; the surprisingly brutal departure of Mimi Kuzyk; how the Owl seems to have turned into a shark who steals thumb; and have we mentioned that Alisha Wainwright is awesome?
Episode 36 of The Descent Is Easy discusses A Window Into An Empty Room, Episode 6 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
Frankly, this episodes is a ball of amazing, beautiful, poignant parts, wrapped up in a whole lot of What the hell are you doing? It’s quite frankly a mess, saved only by the Lightwoods. However, Ruth is disarmed by bare feet and we spin the most crack theory about Underhill, so this is definitely an episode of tDiE you want to tune in for!
PSA: This episode is over 3 hours. Make sure you’re sitting comfortably!
Episode 35 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Stronger Than Heaven, Episode 5 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
We discuss themes running through the episode, such as clothes sharing and what it says about intimacy, Jace and what being a soldier means for him, Alec showing his age and Magnus showing how much still remains of the walls he’s built around his heart, Luke’s farm and where was that when we needed it in the past? Then we re-invent the Clave before discussing the basket of onions that is Malec, with their never ending layers and their ability to make you cry… but also, if they’re cooked right, they turn real sweet…. Hang on, what? Get out of our brain, Matthew!
Episode 34 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Thy Soul Instructed, Episode 4 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
First of all, apology for the sound quality of this episode. Failing to turn a mic on for the first 15 minutes as well as flu and a new episode of Shadowhunters landing on the same day is a bad, bad combination… We tried our best. If you can get past that, in this episode we discuss mental health in regards to Jace and Alec, a conversation which we are so down for the show continuing and are keeping everything crossed that it will! We are also confused by Lilith, Izzy and Heidi, and find ourselves headcanon’ing all over the episode! Enjoy!
Episode 33 of The Descent Is Easy discusses What Lies Beneath, Episode 3 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.
We’re going to keep this short and sweet. This episode is fantastic. Great writing, great directing, great acting. Everyone turned up to work this week and it really shows! Bring on the rest of Season 3!
