We discuss Bound By Blood, in which, turns out, many things are weird and/or uncomfortable.
Alec’s random stab in the dark guess at his boyfriend’s age is weird. Maia decision to kill Clary is uncomfortable. Aldertree is weird and uncomfortable (No surprise there). Luke’s decision to lock Maia in a cupboard to punish her is off the charts uncomfortable… And then we open the box of Parabatai feelings and implications…
We campaign early on to buyjaceapuppy.com but in hindsight, I think it should be buyusapuppy.com, as furry cuddles might make everything better.
This episode is unreasonably long. Sorry about that!
Turns out brilliant Malec & Climon relationship development, a party put on by Mr. Bane, sangria, lots of cats, Lightwood family drama, sangria, drug addiction and, oh yes, a suicide attempt, will do that to a podcast.
Have we mentioned the sangria?
We had a vote and the majority wanted the episode in one go, rather than split in half. If you are looking for a natural moment to break the episode, our discussion of the party and the bottle part of the episode starts at 52 minutes.
This has been a difficult couple of days. We would first like to say we’re so very sorry that this has happened and that it has hurt and angered so many people. Our thoughts go in particular to the young members of the LGBTQ+ community who should under no circumstances have had to hear such language, especially in a space that should be safe.
The language Dom used during yesterday’s Facebook live was inappropriate, hurtful, and unacceptable, and whilst we appreciate his taking accountability and apologising, we understand that this does not erase the incident or the hurt and anger it caused.
We started The Descent is Easy to talk about a show that we love, that we feel is interesting and important, particularly in regards to the representation the show has embraced. We have always tried, as far as is possible, to keep our criticism and our praise separated from our feelings (either positive or negative) about the cast and the other creators behind the show. With this in mind we are going to continue as normal with The Descent is Easy, and hope that you will stick with us too.
There are a lot of people whose hard work and effort goes into making this show, and if at all possible we should not let the idiocy and ignorance of one member of that team cast a permanent shadow on all.
You should know that as of Monday the 27th of November we have recorded all episodes up to the end of season 2a.
If you would like to discuss the incident with either of us, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us on our private social media accounts – rutherinahobbit and michellemisfit (tumblr) and Rutherina and michellemisfitx (twitter).
In which Clary is as pure as the driven special snowflake, Izzy’s purity pool is as black as her soul and Jace is a… well. There is simply no PG way to call Jace a co**block, but that’s what he is.
Also? Magnus and Alec go on a date! Just in case you forgot, don’t worry, we spend half the episode reminding you!
A beautifully filmed, directed and acted epsiode, picking right up from the high standards set last week by the entire Shadowhunters team.
We discuss pain, self-harm, loss, grief, death… This episode of tDiE is an absolute laugh riot, basically. For a bit of levity, we do also debate Harry Shum Jr’s height, the warlock case files and Alec’s willingness to do anything to make things better with Clary, including building a pyramid of frogs. Obviously.
The discussed archery post by aimedtrue can be found here, Michelle’s obsessive mapping of Magnus’ flat can be found here.
In which Jace is suicidal, the Clave continue to be a despicable organisation, Izzy discovers Yin Fen, Magnus’ back story is further explored, Alec & Clary are forced to work together – which is always delightful – and difficult choices have to be made by all of our core cast.
This episode is jam packed with character development, poignant revelations, beautiful cinematography & directing and stellar acting all around.
In which Alec continues spiraling, Jace is being pushed to murder more Downworlders, Clary runs into walls no matter where she turns and the only thing that cheers us up is Magnus and Simon going on a wacky adventure to India.
In which we discuss the characters, plot arcs, locations and much more of Season 1, and what we are looking forward to in Season 2
We also talk about our (only slightly) Shadowhunter themed trip to New York, in which we visited various book and TV locations. Keep your eyes open for the blog post with photographs coming your way soon.
We put the locations on a google map, for you to explore
Where we discuss the Malec of it all, including fandom portmanteaus, outfit choices made by Magnus and Jace throughout the episode and, of course, The Kiss. We then wrap up the season with Valentine and Jace setting sail on the HMS Evil… Cheerful!
