Episode 39: Familia Ante Omnia

Episode 39 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Familia Ante Omnia, Episode 9 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.

In which we discuss the stunning cinematography of the cold open and the show’s bravery in revelling in this episode’s gruesomeness – maggotballs and all – and then complain about the number of characters that had to take their moron pills, to get the plot to where it needed to be and Deux Ex Machina-Clary Fairchild… Mostly because this basically means that Magnus Bane and the Shadowhunters have become entirely obsolete. Which totally opens up the beautiful possibilities of Magnus & Alec spending all of Season 3b on a beach, drinking Mojitos so… Barbados here we come!

Episode 36: A Window Into An Empty Room

Episode 36 of The Descent Is Easy discusses A Window Into An Empty Room, Episode 6 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.

Frankly, this episodes is a ball of amazing, beautiful, poignant parts, wrapped up in a whole lot of What the hell are you doing? It’s quite frankly a mess, saved only by the Lightwoods. However, Ruth is disarmed by bare feet and we spin the most crack theory about Underhill, so this is definitely an episode of tDiE you want to tune in for!

Read about Petra the swan, who fell in love with a swan boat

(We promise this makes sense, if you listen to the episode)

Episode 35: Stronger Than Heaven

PSA: This episode is over 3 hours. Make sure you’re sitting comfortably!

Episode 35 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Stronger Than Heaven, Episode 5 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.

We discuss themes running through the episode, such as clothes sharing and what it says about intimacy, Jace and what being a soldier means for him, Alec showing his age and Magnus showing how much still remains of the walls he’s built around his heart, Luke’s farm and where was that when we needed it in the past? Then we re-invent the Clave before discussing the basket of onions that is Malec, with their never ending layers and their ability to make you cry… but also, if they’re cooked right, they turn real sweet…. Hang on, what? Get out of our brain, Matthew!

Episode 34: Thy Soul Instructed

Episode 34 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Thy Soul Instructed, Episode 4 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.

First of all, apology for the sound quality of this episode. Failing to turn a mic on for the first 15 minutes as well as flu and a new episode of Shadowhunters landing on the same day is a bad, bad combination… We tried our best. If you can get past that, in this episode we discuss mental health in regards to Jace and Alec, a conversation which we are so down for the show continuing and are keeping everything crossed that it will! We are also confused by Lilith, Izzy and Heidi, and find ourselves headcanon’ing all over the episode! Enjoy!

Quotes that are tDiE for

Quotes that are tDiE for is a game we are introducing for the start of Season 3 of Shadowhunters. Any of our listeners can join at any point! Don’t feel like you are ever late to the party!

The Rules

Anyone joining the game will get a collection card on which you battle six demons that are attacking New York. The cards will be displayed here at all times, so you can always keep track of your card!

Ruth and Michelle will pick their favourite quote of each current episode (one each, no choosing the same quote) and you can write in and guess as to what quotes we have picked. You get 2 guesses per write in and all write ins must be with us by midnight on Monday (EST) before the next episode airs on Tuesday. We will reveal our chosen quotes, announce the winners and read out all other suggested best quotes at the beginning of our next podcast episode.

You can contact us using Asks or Messages on tumblrtweet us using #QuotetDiE or write in via the Contact Us on the website.

The Goal

If you guess one or both of our quotes correctly, you collect rune(s) on your card to battle the demons. The goal is to defeat all 6 demons! Across each half season there are 20 possible runes to be collected, 40 runes across the entirety of Season 3. May the odds be ever in your favour… hang on, wrong fandom. Nevermind. If you fill up your card, you can of course start a new one straight away.

The Prize

Anyone who has successfully saved New York from the demon invasion will get a piece of art done for them in the tDiE style. This can be of a character from Shadowhunters, yourself if you wish to use them as icons the way we use ours, your pets, or of anyone else! All you need to do is provide us with a chosen character/person or 2-3 photographs.

Episode 32: The Powers That Be

Episode 32 of The Descent Is Easy discusses The Power That Be, Episode 2 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.

We lament the lack of thigh runes and reveal the first winner of #QuotetDiE before discussing the wonderful and vast amount of Malec domesticity, terribly awkward double dates and try to unravel our feelings over finding ourselves in the middle of a crossover between a pastiche to the old Pink Panther movies and the Lightwood-Bane Investigations Buddy Cop Comedy we never knew we needed in our lives…

Episode 31: On Infernal Ground

Episode 31 of The Descent Is Easy discusses On Infernal Ground, Episode 1 of Season 3 of Shadowhunters.

Ruth and Michelle discuss the trauma of having had to watch this episode separately from each other, due to conflicting schedules and real life, before geeking out over Magnus’ clothes and Alisha being included in the new and shiny credits before Ruth, on air, pretends to be an Iratze! Let’s just say the endorphin rush from Shadowhunters FINALLY being back on our TVs led to a lot of fun and frolics…

Episode 30: Season 2b Roundup

As usual, the Round Up is a monster! We discuss our characters in a new, flow flow floooow chart style! It kind of helped. It could have been 5 hours instead of three…

MalecCrazedAuthor’s meta discussed at the end of this episode can be found HERE and we thoroughly recommend that you read it!

The Descent Is Easy – Blooper Reel

To celebrate the long awaited release of the Shadowhunters Blooper Reel, we thought we would join in with some of our favourite bloopers from the last 8 months of recording The Descent Is Easy – A Shadowhunters Podcast. Please try not to judge us too hard!

WarningExplicit Content! (Well, a few swear words here and there…)

Episode 29: Beside Still Water

Episode 29 of The Descent Is Easy discusses Beside Still Water, Episode 20 of Season 2 of Shadowhunters.

This is the end. The end of Season 2. The end of Valentine Morgenstern. The end of Jace Herondale. The end of Alec’s competency… did we say that out loud? Yeah, yeah we did. And we will repeatedly say it in this episode.

Clary however is awesome. She is fierce and plucky and brave. Stupidly so. And it’s brilliant!

And our Buffy fangirl hearts beat a bit faster when we realise that Rupert Giles created Nephilim. Turns out he really is as amazing as we decided he was when we were 13!
